Welcome to the Hunza Valley in Pakistan ’s North.  Set in the Karakorum Ranges , the valley rides the Hunza River from the Khunjerab Pass at 4,733m down to Khizarabad in Shinaki.  The capital and seat of the former rulers (Mirs) of Hunza is Karimabad. The impressive Baltit Fort which has a style similar to the Potala Palace in Lhasa , Tibet overlooks Karimabad, whilst snow-capped Ultar Peak is the backdrop.  A truly impressive sight!

As one travels through the Hunza Valley , nature’s landscape is continually changing.  Sheer barren mountains loom all around, with small dots of green vegetation where the water aqueducts feed small villages, their fields and orchards; waterfalls crash down from melting snow and ice high above.   Mt Rakaposhi (7,788m) dominates the lower valley, in fact as you travel along the road it seems like you can almost touch it.  A walk to its glacier is a touch with the strength of nature.  Dustigar Sar; Batura Peaks, Shisper, Kharon Pir Sar are just a few of the major peaks above 7,000m which are in the Karakorums, the great mountain range in which the Hunza Valley sits.  Not only by traveling through the valley can people appreciate the enormity of the landscape and the challenges the early settlers and travelers must have had, there are many opportunities to experience what the valley has to offer through trekking, climbing or mountaineering.

But more importantly, whether looking for it at the outset or not, the magic of Hunza Valley is not complete without its people.  It is repeatedly said, that the people of Hunza Valley are very special in their friendliness, openness and kindness.  You will no doubt leave the valley with an impression of honest and sincere people.

Hunza Valley Experience brings you a team of professionals who have had many years of experience in tourism and hospitality.  Ghulam Ahmed of Passu Village has over 19 years experience and his wife, Anna Berghauser of Australia who founded Silk Route Explorers, Tour Operators in Islamabad in 1994.  Together they have now based their Operations from Passu Village in Upper Hunza as they wanted to specialise in offering a unique Hunza Valley Experience to travellers.  With its wide range of options available to travelers, Hunza is no doubt, the ‘Shangrila’ or Jewel of Pakistan.  The openness and friendliness of the Hunza people make one’s stay in the valley a wonderful experience which many travelers write about.
